The Revised Trauma Score is a physiological
scoring system, with high inter-rater reliability and demonstrated
accurracy in predictng death. It is scored from the first set of data
obtained on the patient, and consists of Glasgow
Coma Scale, Systolic Blood Pressure and Respiratory Rate.

Weighted RTS
RTS = 0.9368 GCS + 0.7326 SBP + 0.2908 RR
Values for the weighted RTS are in the range 0 to 7.8408.
The RTS is heavily weighted towards the Glasgow Coma Scale to compensate
for major head injury without multisystem injury or major physiological
changes.
JMP tip
The formula to calculate the RTS in JMP software from SAS:
- Respiratory rate: If(:RR1 > 9 & :RR1 < 30, 4, :RR1 > 29, 3, :RR1 < 10 & :RR1 > 5, 2, :RR1 < 6 & :RR1 > 0, 1, :RR1 == 0, 0)"
- Systolic pressure: If(:BP1 > 89, 4, :BP1 >= 76 & :BP1 <= 89, 3, :BP1 >= 50 & :BP1 <= 75, 2, :BP1 >= 1 & :BP1 <= 49, 1, BP == 0, 0)
- GCS: If(:GCS1 >= 13, 4, :GCS1 >= 9 & :GCS1 <= 12, 3, :GCS1 >= 6 & :GCS1 <= 8, 2, :GCS1 >= 4 & :GCS1 <= 5, 1, :GCS1 == 3, 0)
- Weighted RTS: :CONSC1 * 0.9368 + :BP1 * 0.7326 + :RR1 * 0.2908
